Introduction to BMX Racing

Building on the success of our first workshop, BMX Johor proudly hosted the Volume 2 of the Introduction to BMX Racing on 23rd November 2024. Held at R&F Marina Place, Johor Bahru, this follow-up event welcomed participants aged 5 to 15, giving them another opportunity to dive into the exhilarating world of BMX racing.

Featuring Rosnizam Ismail
Once again, we were thrilled to have Rosnizam Ismail, a highly respected figure in the BMX community, lead the session. With his impressive credentials and passion for the sport, Rosnizam provided valuable insights, practical tips, and expert guidance.

What Participants Learned
The workshop was designed to give participants a comprehensive introduction to BMX racing. The session covered the following topics:

History of BMX Racing
Participants learned about the origins of BMX racing, which started in the 1970s in California, inspired by motocross. Over the years, it has evolved into a globally recognized sport, even earning its place in the Olympics.

Types of BMX Bikes
The session highlighted the different types of BMX bikes used for racing and freestyle.
  • Race BMX: Lightweight bikes designed for speed on tracks. 
  • Freestyle BMX: Sturdy bikes for stunts and tricks.
BMX Tracks in Malaysia
Participants were introduced to the various BMX tracks across Malaysia, including:
  • Arena BMX National Nilai (Negeri Sembilan)
  • Dungun BMX Track (Terengganu)
  • Track BMX Taiping (Perak)
  • Arena BMX Johor (Johor)
  • BMX Track DBKU (Sarawak)
Proper Attire for BMX Racing
Emphasis was placed on safety and the importance of wearing the right gear, including:
  • Full-face helmets.
  • Long-sleeve jerseys and pants for protection.
  • Gloves for grip and safety.
  • BMX racing shoes with proper traction.
These topics not only informed participants about the sport but also sparked their interest in pursuing BMX racing further.

Interactive Q&A Session 
A lively Q&A session gave participants the opportunity to interact directly with our speaker, ask their burning questions, and deepen their understanding of BMX racing. To make it even more exciting, participants who answered questions correctly received special gifts, adding an element of fun and friendly competition.

Everyone had a fantastic time testing out some basic BMX cycling skills, and we couldn’t be happier with the turnout!
